Heroes of 9/11 and Beyond

On September 11, 2001, America pulled itself up by its collective bootstraps and made a difference. Many people don't know about these acts of heroism and many people should. Below is a video of one such act about which most people have never heard. It's time they did. If you know of a video that showcases how the American spirit inspired and kicked butt on or related to 9/11 and beyond, please contact me so I can post it here.

There are many people in the United States that inspire others with their acts of patriotism. If you know of any, please let me know - I would be proud to acknowledge them. Thank you.

9/11 BOATLIFT - When the towers were struck on 9/11, thousands of people started to run down towards the water at Battery Park. When the captains of the ferries and the Coast Guard saw what was happening, they responded by calling for all boats to come and help. The result was the most massive boatlift of people since that which occured at Dunkirk during World War II after the shores of Normandy were invaded and the Nazis were defeated. This is an amazing story narrated by Tom Hanks and is sure to blow you away! BOATLIFT, AN UNTOLD TALE OF 9/11 RESILIENCE

HERO DOGS OF 9/11 - This is a wonderful news report about how man's best friend got the opportunity to prove it once again. Sirius, an Explosive-Detection dog that died on 9/11 will have his own FDNY star on this memorial. 9/11 Hero Dogs

The Guards of the TOMB OF THE UNKNOWNS, Arlington National Cemetery - The responsibilities and requirements of the guards of the Tomb of the Unknowns are quite stringient. The commitments of these men and women (yes, there are several women guards!) are lifelong, not just during their 2 year guard service. Follow these links to read all about it. If you are ever in Virginia and visit the tomb in Arlington National Cemetery, please express your thanks to these wonderful people. They may or may not feel allowed to respond, but I am sure they will feel good to hear it. They have guarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since July 2, 1937 through all kinds of weather, even hurricanes (they refused to leave their assignment when given the choice).

RED NIGHTMARE - I am a big fan of The Young and the Restless. When Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor for almost 40 years, died, I went poking around Wikipedia to find her profile and look for any early movies she might have been in that would be available on Youtube. I found this movie, Red Nightmare. It is a horror film, but not the kind you might think.

From the 1930's to the 1960's, the people of the United States were very concerned about our ways of life being overrun by Communism. It was called the Red Menace. There were people who took their freedoms for granted as if that could not happen. Make no mistake, the world came very close to losing it all during World War II. This movie is about a man here in America who has grown to take his freedoms for granted and wakes up to a whole other world - a nightmare - where his entire town has been taken over by Communists.

As you watch this film from 1962, replace the words "Communism" and "Communists" with "Terrorism" and "Terrorists". This kind of danger does not happen over night as in the film, but a little at a time when we are not being vigilant here at home to protect our American ways of life.

Please watch the movie. It's how 9/11 was possible. RED NIGHTMARE
